A YOKER ecologist is taking a career break so that she can help save the rainforest.

But Jenny Storey needs sponsors her so that she can make the trip of a lifetime to work with the Fauna Forever project.

The project works to secure the future of endangered species that live in Peru’s rainforests.

Jenny told the Post: “I first got involved in the rainforest and its wildlife whilst at university.

“I am now fund-raising to take part in the three month scientific survey in Peru which is costing £2,000 excluding airfare.

“I am contributing £1,000 myself and the airfares so I need help to raise the rest of the money.”

Jenny has already secured £300 funding from the Craig Dohnt Climbing Club and a waste recycling company.

The Fauna Forever project takes ordinary people and places them alongside scientists who are at the forefront of conservation work in Peru.

Jenny said: “Work will be carried out at five of the most important lodges in the area, for a period of a year, with the volunteer teams working for just under three months at a time.

“An assessment of the numbers of animals around the tourist lodges will be undertaken. I will have the opportunity to assist in the collection of information on birds, mammals and reptiles in the region which include many endangered species including giant otter, and jaguar.”
