Join us on a trip down memory lane when Knightswood pupils were preparing for a trip to Spain.

Here's how we told the story on Thursday, February 5, 2004...

YOUNG football fanatics are looking forward to their trip of a lifetime — and the chance to train with one of Europe’s top teams.

Talented youngsters from Knightswood Secondary will travel to Spain at the end of the year to watch their Real Madrid heroes in action and get some top notch training.

And in case they manage to bump into one of the club’s superstars, they’ve even started brushing up on their Spanish lessons.

Spanish teacher Laura Campbell Young told the Post this week: “The boys have been coming along on Tuesday afternoons for lessons, and they’re doing great.

“They agreed to the lessons so that they can make the most of the trip.

“This way they’ll be able to pick up a little of what people are saying.

“They’ve also been working really hard to fund the visit, doing things like bag packing in Sainsbury’s to raise money before they go.

“They’re all really excited about the visit, although funnily enough I haven’t heard many of them talking about David Beckham.

It seems to be Ronaldo and Zidane that they’re all keen to meet.”

Around 20, 14 and 15-year-olds have been lucky enough to be selected for the trip.

They will visit the team’s home stadium and train with the catalogue of stars — although there’s no guarantee if Zidane or Ronaldo will be among them.
