ROAD traffic management will be in place in Yoker as Scottish Water re-commences work on a £7million tunnel project.

Commuters have been warned to expect possible delays and changes to their usual routes as some roads are closed to allow the essential works to be carried out.

The environmental improvement project will help improve the water quality and natural environment of the River Clyde, as well as helping to tackle flooding issues.

Road traffic management has been agreed in conjunction with Glasgow City Council and will be in place for the preparatory ground work to be carried out and the completion of tunnel access shafts.

From Monday, January 28, Dyke Road will be closed from Dumbarton Road to its junction with Craggan Drive so the work can take place.

Local access will be maintained, and diversion routes will be signposted.

It is anticipated that this phase of work will be completed by Tuesday, February 12 and Dyke Road will re-open.

The work is being delivered by George Leslie Ltd and will enable the completion of a storm overflow tunnel from the grounds of the former Blawarthill Hospital to the north banks of the Clyde.

A second phase of work will begin on Dyke Road on Monday, March 18 and will see the road closed once again from its junction with Craggan Drive to Dumbarton Road.

Local access will be maintained, however, access to Spiershall Close will be reduced to one lane.

It is expected that this phase of work will be completed, and temporary restrictions lifted by June 28.

Scottish Water said they thanked commuters and residents for their patience and understanding throughout these essential works.
