RESIDENTS are being urged to think about taking a walk in Boden Boo or Drumchapel Woods this weekend ahead of the saddest day of the year.

The third Monday in January known as ‘Blue Monday’, is claimed to be the most depressing day of the year.

As the festive season has ended and reality is set back in, many are plagued by gloomy weather and a worn-out bank account.

Forest Enterprise Scotland is responsible for managing the National Forest Estate on behalf of Scottish Government and both Boden Boo and Drumchapel Woods are maintained to allow people to make use of them.

They offer a versatile user experience, including pathways and green areas for visitors to enjoy.

Exploring the great outdoors provides multiple benefits, including physical exercise opportunities, reducing symptoms of poor mental health and stress, and improving mental wellbeing.

Julie McAlpine, of Forest Enterprise Scotland, said: “It’s amazing what a brisk walk and breathing in some fresh air can do for you. This combined with a calm, green environment is the perfect recipe to clear the mind, boost energy levels and promote more positive thinking. Getting out and about this weekend will prepare the mind for ‘Blue Monday’ and equip people with the mindset they need for the day ahead.

“Scotland is full of multipurpose woodlands, useful for hill walking, dog walking, jogging or a relaxing walk with the family. A healthy mind is a happy one, and studies have shown that spending time within greenspaces can really help reduce mental fatigue and beat the January blues. There’s no time like the present to make your New Year’s resolution and get outdoors more.”
