YOUTH charity Y Sort It have been nominated across three categories of national awards.

The organisation have been repeatedly recognised for their work across Clydebank and West Dunbartonshire and have been shortlisted for Youthlink Scotland’s National Youth Work Awards.

Their young carers service was nominated for the mental health and wellbeing category, while their management board is a finalist in the youth participation category. Lyndsey Coleman is also up for youth worker of the year.

The awards, to be held in Glasgow on March 13, recognise the difference made in the lives of young people across Scotland.

Gillian Kirkwood, Y Sort It manager, said: “Lyndsey’s youth work career has seen her working alongside and supporting many young carers and those who are care experienced, not only by providing direct support but also to ensuring they have a say in the development of each of the services.

“It is great to see her dedication recognised at a national level.”

And Lyndsey said: “I am totally overwhelmed to be nominated for this award. It was a lovely surprise and gesture from my work colleagues.

“I have loved every minute of my time working at Y sort it, supporting young people and watching them grow as individuals over the years. Every day is different in youth work and that’s what I love about it.

“Inspiring positive changes in young people is very rewarding and something I hope to continue to do in years to come. I am so proud to be part of such an amazing project and the Youth work sector in Scotland.”

Theresa McLaughlin, Y Sort It senior youth support worker said of the nod: “I couldn't be more proud of my team being nominated for this award.

"We work extremely hard with our professional partners to ensure our young carers confidence continues to grow which helps reduce feelings of stress and anxiety, and improve their overall mental health and wellbeing.”
