A contract has been approved for the next three years of debt recovery for the council and sheriff officers.

George Walker & Co (trading as Walker Love) won the approval of West Dunbartonshire Council’s tendering committee to start from April 2019 to pursue unpaid council tax, non domestic rates, debt invoices for the council and West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust and housing benefit overpayments.

It will cost £68,500 a year.

The bidder had to have permission to operate as sheriff officers and messengers-at-arms within Dumbarton Sheriff Court’s district.

There were no bids for the second part of the contract so that will go back out to tender in the next six months.

Walker Love said they wouldn’t collect any commission on their work, saving the council £12k.

The firm offered to sponsor a youth club or active sports programme as part of their social benefits with the contract along with an “extended work placement.”
