There was medal success for Clydebank youngsters at the 36th annual Traditional Taekwondo Association British Championships at Bellahouston Sports Centre.

The event, which took place on November 18, attracted competitors from across the UK and Ireland and despite facing tough competition, the members of the Clydebank Traditional Taekwondo Association performed excellently as they bagged two gold medals and two silver medals.

Competing under Olympic rules and regulations and refereed by trained officials to safeguard the competitors, the Clydebank youngsters tested their skills against opponents of a similar weight and age category.

First up was 16-year-old Lauren Gallagher who attends St Peter the Apostle. A black belt 2nd dan, Lauren brought home a well-deserved silver medal.

West of Scotland College student Nikolaji Lubcenko competed well in the senior male category at under 87kgs to win the club’s second silver of the day.

Arran Campbell, 11, clinched the club’s first gold of the afternoon with an impressive display in the cadet male under 37kgs category. The Our Holy Redeemer pupil came through a strong section in the 10-12 year old age group.

Youngster Patricia Sosynski, 10, rounded off the day with another gold for the club in the cadet under 37kgs section, topping the standings with an impressive display, while the club was also involved in the judging of the event with Kelsey Graham, black belt 1st dan and Mateusz Sosynski, 1st kup, participating as officials for the event.

CTTA will now wind down for the Christmas holidays as they get set to prepare for the National Team Championships in April 2019 with youngster Arran also looking to gain his junior black belt.

The club meets at the Leisuredrome on Mondays and Wednesdays 6.30pm to 7.30pm. The members are trained by Grandmaster T.K.Loh, pioneer of WTF Taekwondo in Scotland.
