A FORMER Bankie has had her first book published – from half way across the world.

Diane Chubb attended St Stephen’s Primary School in the 1980s before moving to Canada when she was only six years old.

Currently living in Ladner with her husband Jamie and daughter Taylor May, Diane works as an educational assistant.

Despite being only young when moving abroad, Diane still has fond memories of Clydebank.

She said: “I remember Sunday dinners at my gran and grandpa’s house on Hawthorn Street and playing out on Crown Avenue with all my pals. I remember all the great food; square sausages, tattie scones, Irn Bru, fish and chips with a pickled onion in newspaper, and coca cola cubes from Parkhall sweet shop.

“I have visited Scotland many times since we moved when I was six years old.

“Our Scottish roots are very important to my family.

“We have been so lucky to have visited three times with Taylor May.”

Diane has been inspired by books since primary one after her teacher, Mrs McCoach, read Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown to the class – and she now reads this to her own students.

Being an author has been a goal for Diane since 2012 when she created a vision board of all the things she wanted to achieve in life.

And now her very own children’s book has been published – Hello World!

It tells the story of one little girl as she sets off to explore the seven continents in seven days.

Every day is a brand-new adventure, meeting animal friends and having cupcake tea parties while dancing her way around the world.

The inspiration for the book came from her four-year-old daughter Taylor May, who is a fan of the book herself.

Diane added: “When Taylor May was just a few months old I read her a book. I would look at her and just be inspired to write.

“She had gorgeous little cupcake pyjamas on and my love for a good cup of tea inspired the theme of cupcake tea parties throughout the world.”

Illustrator Jasylne Shaw created Taylor May as an animated character.

A copy has been donated to Clydebank Library.
