Pupils from seven schools across Dumbarton took part in a physical and fun festival last week.

Held in Dumbarton Academy, primary five youngsters from St Michael’s, St Patrick’s, Braehead, Knoxland, St Kessog’s, St Peters and Aitkenbar Primary enjoyed the basketball festival as part of the Active Schools programme.

The team for St Patrick’s and Knoxland won the competition and will go through to the finals to compete.

Held in Clydebank Leisure Centre on January 23, the teams will battle it out against three teams from Clydebank schools and two from the Vale, to determine the overall champions.

Emma McCluskey, Active Schools co-ordinator for Dumbarton, told the Reporter: “It was brilliant, it was really good fun. We had all the sports leaders from Dumbarton Academy helping run the festival.

“They umpired and kept the scores. It is a good experience for them as well as a great help to us.”

The event was also part of the West Dunbartonshire School Games and the two winning teams won points for their school which will go towards the overall total for the year.
