THE site of a former day centre has been sold for £75,000.

The area, at Auchentoshan Estate, near Kilpatrick Primary, was approved unanimously for sale to the Sim Group at West Dunbartonshire Council’s infrastructure, regeneration and economic development (IRED) committee last week.

Council bosses have been looking to offload the 1.28 hectares since 2009 in hopes of developing a residential care home.

Since then, it was hit with several arson attacks and had to be demolished in 2013.

Sim Group plan to build a care home.

Jim McAloon, head of regeneration and economic development, admitted the £75k was “much lower” than they would have liked but they had exhausted all other options.

He said: “We have tried to market this everywhere and this is the only thing that has come back at this time. We felt it was worth coming and seeing if we could do this.”

Councillor Martin Rooney said: “I think there’s quite a lot of background and it’s a difficult site to market.”

The site is off a private road and questions were raised about who would maintain it.

Council officers said they would look at the issue as the deal and planning proposals move forward.
