The best school teams from West Dunbartonshire battled it out at Clydebank Leisure Centre last Tuesday night to be crowned the area’s primary four dodgeball champions.

St Mary’s, Goldenhill and Edinbarnet Primaries competed for the prize against Christie Park, Renton, St Peter’s and St Michael’s Primaries, before Goldenhill were crowned winners with Edinbarnet coming in second place.

Teams from Christie Park and Renton Primary earned the right to compete in the final after coming first and second respectively in the Vale of Leven qualifier at the end of last month.

And sides from St Peter’s and St Michael’s represented Dumbarton after being crowned the top two in the their area qualifier.

The four local primaries also faced stuff competition from the two winners from the Clydebank area qualifiers - St Mary’s and Goldenhill, who were the eventual winners.

The qualifiers and final were part of the West Dunbartonshire School Games, which is organised by the Active Schools team within the local authority.

A spokesman for the Active Schools team said: “Brilliant to see so many parents turn out to support the children and get so involved in cheering the kids on. Well done everyone!”

“A great fun atmosphere and really good competition. Brilliant teamwork and smiles all round!

The WDSG gives pupils will get the chance to take part in a range of sports including basketball, cross-country, tennis and swimming, both competitively and non-competitively and gain WDSG points for their schools.

And last week’s final is one of several competitive finals which will be held across these various sports during this school year as part of the games.

The points gained by each school at each event will be totalled up at the end of the year and small, medium, large and secondary schools champions will be named.
