A COUPLE who recently celebrated 50 years of marriage say the secret to a long, happy life together is “simply being there for each other”.
Michael and Irene Kelly met in Glasgow’s Barrowland ballroom and went on to marry in St Stephens, Dalmuir, on November 9, 1968.
Michael worked as a shipbuilding plater in John Browns and Yarrows while Irene worked in Singers before having four children – Irene, twins Claire and Raymond, and Michael.
They are now proud grandparents to seven grandchildren and one great grandson and love spending time with their family.
Michael also enjoys playing bowls at Singers Bowling Club whilst Irene loves attending bingo clubs with her friends.
The couple celebrated their Golden Anniversary with family at the Normandy Hotel where they enjoyed being serenaded by a Jersey Boys tribute band.
Provost Hendrie also paid a home a visit to wish them his congratulations.
