West Dunbartonshire's MP Martin Docherty-Hughes has launched his 2018 parliamentary Christmas card design competition for local primary schools.

Creative pupils will be submitting designs for the MP’s annual Christmas card competition to raise funds for local good causes.

Last year’s winning entry was designed by Aila Muir of Bonhill Primary, helping to raise more than £1,000 for Vale of Leven Autism and Asperger’s Forum and Kilpatrick School thanks to sponsorship by local businesses.

The theme for this year’s competition is ‘Joy’ with all proceeds raised going towards supporting West Dunbartonshire-based charity The Leamy Foundation which provides opportunities to improve the lives of disadvantaged young people.

Mr Docherty-Hughes has invited local primary schools to take part, with the best entries awarded prizes and the overall winning design printed as the MP for West Dunbartonshire’s official parliamentary Christmas card for 2018.

The MP said: “I always look forward to my annual Christmas card competition because West Dunbartonshire’s talented school pupils never fail to impress with their innovative and creative designs.

“Last year we managed to raise over £1,000 for local good causes thanks to all the pupils taking part and the generous support of local businesses.

“This year’s competition will raise funds for The Leamy Foundation which does so much so support disadvantaged young people in West Dunbartonshire.

“It’s a great opportunity for local children to showcase their artistic abilities.

"The winning design will be printed as my 2018 parliamentary Christmas card and sent out to local community groups, businesses and elected representatives.”
