The success of 150 young people who took their opportunity at Centre81 in Clydebank has been celebrated at a community event.

The youngsters showed an audience of 100 their achievements at various youth projects promoted by the project ACF Connecting Clydebank.

This included dance performances, drama workshops, T-shirt printing, a presentation on climate change and a demonstration of self-defence.

Held in Centre81 in Braes Avenue, the event gave the Whitecrook community the chance to celebrate the Year of Young People, which aims to inspire Scotland through its young people, celebrating their achievements, valuing their contribution and creating opportunities for them.

Opened by Provost William Hendrie in partnership with local organisation Isaro Social Integration Network, Centre81 celebrated the success of the 150 young people who have engaged with the centre this year.

The audience were treated to dance performances from Street League, Dunbartonshire’s October school-week dance sessions, a demonstration of Krav Junior, a self-defence technique developed for young people, drama workshops, recycled T-shirt printing, and a presentation on climate change by a group of Isaro “Green Champions”.

Provost Hendrie also handed out 12 green champion awards on the day to young people who completed climate-change awareness training through the Climate Challenge Initiative Project run by Isaro project and have been promoting ways to reduce carbon emissions.

Information was given about C81’s Growing Spaces, a programme promoting fresh fruit and healthy eating. A smoothie-making bike was demonstrated and there was a planting workshop.

Organiser Alan Karas said: “We were absolutely delighted by the turnout. It was great to see them supporting the event and celebrating our young people.

“Everyone who came took part and seemed to have a brilliant time.”

Centre81 and Isaro’s projects will continue to engage with young people and their parents with the aim of improving lives and the environment both in Whitecrook and globally through increasing skills, education and awareness within the community.
