A SCHOOLGIRL from Old Kilpatrick has donated more than £1,000 to charity along with 17 inches of her hair after being inspired by a video online.

Keeva Bonner’s long brown locks were cut short last month and sent off to the Little Princess Trust which provides real wigs free of charge to children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments.

A total of £1,030 was raised by the youngster for the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and an additional £77 for The Beatson.

The 10-year-old was described as a “loving wee girl who is always thinking of others” by her teacher at St Mary’s in Duntocher.

The idea to fundraise by cutting her hair came after she watched a YouTube video of a girl receiving a wig from the Little Princess Trust during cancer treatment.

Keeva’s mum, Michelle Bonner, told the Post: “Keeva asked if she could donate hers because, ‘It’s only hair and will grow back’.

“I think it really hit home to her the reality faced by cancer patients and, as a child herself, this was the way she could help.

“I told her to think about it for a couple of weeks just to make sure it wasn’t something she just decided to do on impulse but, after the couple of weeks, she was adamant she was having it done.”

Keeva chose where the money would be donated and picked the Schiehallion ward in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where children with cancer are treated.

Michelle added: “For someone so young to even think of doing something like this is amazing, she has raised so much money and we are truly grateful to each and every one who donated.

“We hope the money helps the children and their families during such a traumatic time in their lives.

“Our family are extremely proud of Keeva, she is a loving, caring wee girl who loves to help others.”

Keeva, who loves her new hair, said: “I am so happy to do something to have helped.”

Helen Creese, of the Little Princess Trust, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Keeva Bonner for donating her long hair. It’s such a brave decision to cut off a lot of hair but we are hugely grateful. Receiving a wig has a profoundly positive effect on those we assist. Congratulations to Keeva, on her amazing fundraising efforts.”
