CLYDEBANK Boys’ Brigade members recently enjoyed a night under the stars at one of Scotland’s top visitor attractions.

During an evening and overnight stay at the Glasgow Science Centre, the boys experienced the state-of-the-art planetarium, a live science show with a “Fantastic Force” theme and hundreds of interactive scientific exhibits.

They were joined by around 400 other Boys’ Brigade members aged 8-10 from across the country for their annual Juniors Giant Sleepover.

Lieutenant Karen Voy, of the 4th Clydebank Boys’ Brigade, told the Post: “All the boys enjoyed the shows in the planetarium but, most of all, they enjoyed staying up late and having a pillow fight.”

She added: “They did the company proud with their excellent behaviour.”

Brigade member Will Logan said: “I really enjoyed the show Fantastic Force which was about friction and magnetics.”

It was the sixth time the BBs have run the event in the Science Centre and the third time the Clydebank boys have attended. This year’s sleepover coincided with the BBs’ new STEM ambassador scheme to support learning in science, technology, engineering and maths.

John Sharp, the BBs’ director in Scotland, said: “The sleepover is a very special and exciting event – and this year was no different. It offers children a chance to enjoy a national event which combines learning, fun and a residential experience.

“We know the majority of a child’s learning takes place outwith the classroom. By launching the STEM ambassador programme, we want to support our leaders to offer new and exciting ways for children and young people to get into STEM activities.”
