WEST Dunbartonshire Council are set to complete a hat-trick of national awards for their approach in involving tenants and service users, just three years after being the “worst performers” in Scotland.

WDC have been cited for excellence through being nominated for the TPAS (Scotland) National Good Practice Awards for the third successive year, having won the previous two occasions.

Peter Barry, West Dunbartonshire Council’s strategic lead, housing and employability, told councillors at the housing committee last Wednesday: “Our approach has been commended via an external validation exercise by TPAS (Tenant Participation Advisory Service) Scotland which awarded West Dunbartonshire Council, a silver accreditation for excellence in tenant participation.

“WDC was the first local authority in Scotland to receive such an accreditation. Three years ago this council were the worst performers in Scotland. We set a challenge to be the best. My team have done significant work to tackle that and are now in the top quarter.”

Councillor Gail Casey, praising their fantastic turnaround, said: “This is a very good report and it is great to see the figures are going in the right direction.”

Councillor John Miller added: “I must congratulate the officers and the workforce on these awards.”
