THOUSANDS of people from Drumchapel and the surrounding areas headed to Winterfest for a night of entertainment.

With fireworks, live performances, stalls and funfair rides, there was something for the whole family to enjoy.

Organisers estimate that more than 12,000 people attended the annual free event at Drumchapel Park last Monday night – the tenth year of the event.

Jemma Stevenson, The Collective, Nicholas McDonald and Simply Rod – a Rod Stewart tribute act – all performed on the night.

And Robin and Adele from Heart Radio hosted a fireworks countdown before the fireworks display at 7pm.

Paul Carey, councillor for Drumchapel and Anniesland, described the night as a “major success”.

He added: “It was absolutely jumping, one of the best we have had.

“The night was a big test for Winterfest and the community and I am really grateful residents turned out in their thousands.”

Social media users posted on Facebook saying that it was a “brilliant night” with “excellent fireworks.”

A spokesman from organisers Glasgow City Council, said: “It was great to see Winterfest going from strength to strength. This year’s event pulled in another capacity crowd and it is now firmly established as a family favourite for Drumchapel and the surrounding area.

“It was a great occasion for everyone involved but a huge vote of thanks must go to Heart Radio for their on-going support of the event. Having an organised fireworks display in Drumchapel has made a positive contribution to reducing instances of anti-social behaviour in the area on and around November 5.”
