Three Clydebank residents are preparing to kick off their Sunday shoes as they take to the stage in Footloose the musical.

The talented trio, Maddy Holtham, Laura Minto and Shirley Burns, will join around 40 other performers from the Minerva Club to bring their spirit of youth, rebellion and romance to Eastwood Park Theatre.

The musical theatre group, based in Glasgow’s west end, have been performing since 1927.

Their annual show this year is based on the 1980s hit film, Footloose.

City boy Ren is forced to move to a small mid-western town and quickly discovers it is illegal to dance or to listen to rock music there.

With the help of his new friend Willard, and defiant teen Ariel, he tries to loosen up this conservative town where the formidable Reverend Moore is determined to keep things the way they are.

Laura, 34, a teacher from Knightswood and a member of the club for the past eight years said: “I am so happy to be playing a principal role again this year. This is going to be a fantastic show and the crowds will love it. There’s so many well-known songs that you will be dancing in your seat.”

Colette Dunsmore, Minerva Club president, added: “Many people will remember the film and we’re delighted to be bringing it to the stage. It’s a show that’s full of fun and memorable songs which weave the plot together at breakneck speed. I would encourage anyone to come along and enjoy this multi layered and emotional production.”

This year, the club will be supporting Calums Cabin, through their production of Footloose.

The charity provides a holiday retreat on the Isle of Bute for children suffering from cancer to come with their families, to spend quality time together and make irreplaceable memories.

The musical will be performed at Eastwood Park Theatre, Giffnock, from Tuesday, November 13 to Saturday, November 17.

Tickets cost £13-£18 and are available by emailing tickets@theminervaclub.com or purchasing them online at ticketsource.co.uk/theminervaclub.
