A group of volunteers from a Johnstone charity shop have been fundraising tirelessly to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.

The event which takes place this weekend will be televised on Channel 4 and hopes to unite people across the country to help speed up progress in life changing cancer research.

And the ladies at Cancer Research UK in the town were determined to do their bit to help.

The group were can collecting last weekend and created a 'give the dog a bone' game to get people involved.

One of the volunteers Vicky Mauchan said: "We were out can collecting last weekend and then we ran a special game in the shop to do something a bit different.

"We had a map with pawprints and people had to guess which print the dog had hidden the bone by covering it with a Stand Up To Cancer sticker. The person who got the right pawprint, won a very nice toy dog."

Vicky and the other volunteers will be collecting money again this weekend with hopes of bumping their already impressive £1000 total up even more.

"It is important that people donate because the money will be put towards trials to help beat cancer," she added.

You can head along to the shop today to get involved with the fundraising or donate to Stand Up To Cancer directly at www.standuptocancer.org.uk/pay-in

Stand Up to Cancer will air tonight at 7pm on Channel 4.
