DRIVERS have been warned to leave extra time for their journeys along the A82 as two weeks of overnight roadworks get under way this weekend.

Just under a mile of the trunk road, at the junction with the A817 to Garelochhead – the Haul Road – will be resurfaced from Sunday, October 21 onwards.

The road will remain open throughout, but a 10mph convoy system will be implemented from 7pm to 7am each night to keep road workers safe – and during the day, traffic will be limited to 30mph as it travels over a temporary surface.

No work will take place on Friday or Saturday nights.

Eddie Ross from trunk road maintenance company BEAR Scotland, which is carrying out the work on behalf of Transport Scotland, said: “The £250,000 surfacing improvements will greatly improve the road surface quality on this section of the A82, providing a safer and smoother journey for motorists.

“We’ve planned the works to take place at night to minimise disruption to road users as much as possible on this section of the A82, and we’ve arranged the programme to avoid working on the busier Friday and Saturday nights.

"Our teams will do all they can to complete the improvements as quickly and safely as possible.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance and would also encourage them to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
