BOWLERS from across the area and beyond took part in a tournament whilst raising money for charity.

Clydebank Bowling Club president Brian Aitchison (pictured bottom left) welcomed visitors from the Old Kilpatrick, Townend, Polmont, Singer, Yoker, Radnor Park and Dalmuir clubs to the annual charity event on October 6.

A total of £1,800 was raised on the day for the Beatson Cancer Charity and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Prizes were kindly donated by both businesses and individuals for a raffle and an auction.

Andrew Knox, treasurer at Clydebank Bowling Club, told the Post: “Everyone had a fun filled enjoyable day aided by fantastic weather and it was truly inspiring to witness the depth of compassion and generosity that folk are capable of demonstrating, even in these hard times to support these charities in the fight against cancer.”

“Cancer will touch every one of our lives, whether it be ourselves as individuals or a loved one being affected by this terrible illness.

“Anything we can do therefore to support these organisations in the work they do to battle this disease, or to assist those who have fallen victim to cancer, will benefit us all in the long run.”

The winners of the tournament, and of the Colin Burnett Memorial Trophy, were Andy Roberts, Connor Hughes, Alex McCready and Andy Dunbar of Old Kilpatrick Bowling Club.

The trophy was kindly donated by Aubrey and Michelle Christian from Polmont Bowling Club.

Andrew added: “Our late secretary Mr Colin Burnett was a patient in the Beatson and the whole idea behind the charity days were entirely his.

“Despite his failing health he was a staunch supporter of the club and very much the driving force behind setting up and organising the charity day and bowls tournament in the format that it is today.

“On behalf of Clydebank Bowling Club, I would like to thank everyone who contributed so generously. Thanks to all the players, visitors and staff of Clydebank Bowling Club who contributed so much to make this event such a resounding success.”
