Two talented young performers from Dumbarton are preparing to wow audiences at a forthcoming show.

Debbie MacDonald and Leo Reilly will be joining almost 40 performers from the Minerva Club in a production of Footloose, to be staged at the Eastwood Park Theatre in Giffnock next month.

Based on the 1980s hit film, which starred Kevin Bacon and Sarah Jessica Parker, the show tells the story of city boy Ren, who is forced to move to a small mid-western town and quickly discovers it is illegal to dance or to listen to rock music there.

With the help of his new friend, Willard Hewitt, and defiant teen Ariel Moore, he tries to loosen up this conservative town where the formidable Reverend Moore is determined to keep things the way they are.

Debbie, 29, is playing the part of Wendy Jo, who is the best friend of Ariel.

She said: “I’m really excited to be in my second production with Minerva and can’t wait to be performing at Eastwood again.

“It doesn’t matter whether or not you’ve seen the film, Footloose is a great show.”

The Minerva Club’s president, Colette Dunsmore, said: “Many people will remember the film, Footloose, and we’re delighted to be bringing it to the stage.

“It’s a show that’s full of fun and memorable songs which weave the plot together at breakneck speed.

“I would encourage anyone to come along and enjoy this multi-layered and emotional production.”

The Minerva Club has been performing in Glasgow and the surrounding area since 1927 and is dedicated to enabling people from all walks of life and across generations to enjoy musical theatre, learn new skills and perform on stage.

Footloose will be on at Eastwood Park Theatre, Giffnock, from Tuesday November 13 to Saturday November 17.
