A RENTON man who bit a cop on the body and grabbed another man by the throat has been given “one last chance” to stay out of jail – after claiming he forgot about a court-ordered appointment with social workers.

Stewart Bagan, 20, of Tontine Park, carried out the attack at a house in Taylor Street, Renton, on December 23, 2017. He seized the man by the neck and compressed it.

Dumbarton Sheriff Court previously heard Bagan shouted, swore and made threats of violence towards police officers.

Bagan then attacked one of the officers and bit him.

The court heard on Friday that Bagan had failed to keep an appointment with social workers to have a background report prepared on him.

His lawyer said: “He got the letter but the appointment slipped his mind.

“He is keen to be offered another appointment.

Sheriff Kevin Duffy said: “It is not acceptable for it to slip your mind.

“I could remand you in custody and ensure we get the reports, but I will give you one last chance at liberty.”

Sentence was deferred until November 9 to obtain the reports previously ordered.

Bagan’s bail was continued until then.
