A BUSTLING section of Glasgow City Centre is set to be closed off to all traffic and pedestrians for a week as shooting for a major Hollywood film gets underway.

George Square and its surrounding areas will see high-speed car chases and gunfire as producers shoot scenes for a Fast and the Furious spin-off.

As reported by the Evening Times previously, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Statham are set to descend on Glasgow for the film, called Hobbs and Shaw.

The Evening Times can today reveal the project has been given the codename “Danny the Nanny.”

Filming in the City Centre will take place from October 23 to 29.

On each day, film bosses will be shooting for 12 hours, between 7am and 7pm, or for as long as daylight will allow.

In communication seen by the Evening Times, producers said: “There will be some activity outside of these times as the crew arrives and departs.

“We will also have a small presence in the area on the days before and after filming in order to prepare and reinstate the locations.”

The sequence being filmed in Glasgow includes a car chase. This will be simulated on the roads around George Square.

Tight control of the area is required to safely facilitate all activities. Therefore, a number of roads will be closed to traffic during the above-mentioned time period. The movement of pedestrians will also have to be managed while filming gets underway.

The letter adds: “There will be a rigorous stewarding and signage in place to help people circumvent using parallel roads where possible.

“Pedestrian access will be maintained to premises situated within the closures, although short delays might be encountered.”

The scenes being filmed include “a small amount of gunfire.” To achieve this, the crew will make “careful use of props and replica firearms.” Police Scotland will be in attendance throughout filming to ensure no alarm is caused to members of the public.

Hobbs and Shaw focuses on 46-year-old Johnson’s US Diplomatic Security Agent, Luke Hobbs, forming an unlikely alliance with Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw.
