New signs have gone up for the upcoming opening of TJ Hughes in Clyde Shopping Centre.

The unit has remained branded as BHS for more than two years since the retailer collapsed in 2016, leaving the largest gap in the shopping centre.

Owners of the site have yet to be given an opening date for the store, which they announced was taking the 50,000sqft unit in July and is expected to provide up to 50 full-time jobs.

Ross Campbell, senior asset manager with centre owners Edinburgh House Estates, told the Post: “While no date is set, hopefully the shoppers of Clyde will have seen the signage going up for TJ Hughes.

“We are only weeks away. We are also pleased to report a new letting to Currie & Quirk, one of Glasgow’s leading opticians coming to the centre.

“We are in advanced negotiations with more exciting retailers and will be announcing them soon.”

As well as the TJ Hughes branding, there is also one for “SmartFoods”, which was described by the centre owners as part of TJ Hughes.

Clyde Shopping Centre has been hit by big name departures since BHS left as national retailers struggle to survive, including Poundworld and Evans.

It has also welcomed new leases such as Nando’s, Matzaluna and Ollybear. The unit next to Nando’s is under offer, as is the former Poundworld but the centre could not confirm who was taking over the leases.
