Mobile phone coverage is expected to be improved in the heart of Clydebank’s commercial and retail area with the installation of a taller phone mast.

Council planners have recommended the 17 metre mast in Argyll Road is given the go-ahead.

It will be close to the site of an existing 15 metre mast, which will be removed.

In a paper that went before West Dumbartonshire Council’s planning committee last week, planning officials stated: “There is a locational need for the proposal to be sited at this location.

“The Clyde Shopping Centre and nearby Clyde Retail Park are busy areas of Clydebank with high footfall. Argyll Road is a main transport link through the town centre.

“The increased demand for mobile phone coverage includes portable electronic devices such as tablets and laptops which all use the mobile network.

“The increase in demand for this puts pressure on the network so the redevelopment of the mast is required to ensure operators can provide this.”

The application is on behalf of mobile phone operators EE and HG3.
