PUPILS showed off some nifty footwork recently as they took to the court to compete in a netball festival run by Active Schools.

All 14 primary schools from the Clydebank area were involved in the event with Edinbarnet, Clydemuir, Carleith, Gavinburn, Goldenhill, Whitecrook, Linnvale, St Mary’s, St Joseph’s, St Stephen’s, St Eunan’s, Our Holy Redeemer’s, Our Lady of Loretto and Whitecrook all sending teams.

The festival was held to decide which schools will compete in each of the three A, B and C Clydebank Netball Leagues for the 2018/19 session. This will be part of the West Dunbartonshire School Games this year with competitive points awarded based on placings.

The leagues will culminate in a West Dunbartonshire School Games Final with the best schools from across Clydebank facing those from Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven for the chance to become WDSG Netball Champions 2019 in June.

Louise Morrison, Active Schools coordinator for the Clydebank area, said: “The festival was fantastic. It was great to see all 14 schools involved which meant we had over 140 pupils competing and representing their schools.

“It’s great to be able to provide opportunities like this for young people in Clydebank to take part in sport.

“Active Schools couldn’t do it without the schools’ staff and volunteers who help run the clubs and festivals. I’d also like to say a special thanks to the sports coaching student of West College Scotland who helped out today as well. They were great.

“I am looking forward to the leagues starting in October and finding out who our champions will be this year.”
