CELEBRATIONS are about to get under way for Faifley Art Group as they prepare to hold a public exhibition for their 30th anniversary.

Works of art by group members, both past and present, will be on show and for sale in the Backdoor Gallery at Dalmuir Library.

And the public is being encouraged to attend the free event which will run from September 14 until November 3.

The Faifley group currently has around 20 members and has been part of the community for the last three decades.

It is run by the members and an elected management committee.

Christine Smith, president and the longest serving member, told the Post: “During the years, painting styles, the quality and range of mediums available and challenges to try new ventures have all changed.

“We have had some memorable educational visits, linked to tuition in new styles and methods, resulting in new works for exhibiting in venues like Backdoor Gallery, Awestruck Gallery and Botanic Tearooms.”

The group meet on a Wednesday in Skypoint Centre from 10am-12pm and it is open to anyone interested in art.

Member Morag Daly said: “It’s a pleasure to be involved with the group because the people are friendly, sociable and caring, they are also very talented and happy to share their knowledge and experience with others who join.

“A special mention and grateful thanks goes to Christine for arranging this special exhibition and for all her hard work keeping the group organised, up to date and involved with all that’s happening currently in the ever changing world of art.”

All work displayed and for sale is original and painted by the local artists including past member Gordon Murdoch, who sadly passed away last year and was a member of the group since 1988.

A range of different styles and sizes will be available at affordable prices.

Opening times are as follows: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays 9.30am-5pm; Tuesdays 1pm-8pm; and Saturdays 10am-1pm.
