THE devastated sister-in-law to be of tragic Liam Colgan is set to take on a 10k running challenge in his memory.

Determined Susan Dolan was set to marry the 29-year-old's brother Eamonn before he vanished on the stag party in Hamburg, Germany on February 10.

His body was found 10 weeks later on April 23 in the River Elbe after a massive search operation.

During the frantic search, a family friend came across The Lucie Blackman Trust, which provides support for families of British people who die abroad, and it was a service which proved vital.

Susan, from Monikie, said: “The moment we got in touch with the trust they couldn’t have been more helpful, nothing was too much for them.

"They helped us liaise with media, local authorities and helped us book flights and hotels so we could bring Liam’s body back to Scotland.

“I don’t know what we would have done without the support and help from the staff at the Trust.”

The 34-year-old, who is a community staff nurse, is running with four friends and neighbours – Nicola MacQueen, Gemma White, Nicky Logue and Laura McGilvery – who don’t have a lot of running experience but are giving training their all.

Susan added: “We are all working out with a personal trainer twice a week to get us into the best possible shape with a mixture of circuit training and boot camp style exercises.

“Before we started training I couldn’t even run a mile but I have slowly been building up my runs to get my training to a good place.

“Liam wasn’t a keen runner at all but sometimes he would have sporadic bursts of doing exercise.

"He would be proud that I’ve managed to get myself to a level to complete the 10k.”

The iconic run will once again be supported by Bank of Scotland, who this year are celebrating their tenth year as partner.

Both the 10k and the half-marathon take place on September 30, with runners setting off from George Square in the heart of Glasgow.

Participants will follow either route through the city before passing under McLennan Arch ahead of the finish line at Glasgow Green.

While the Toddler Dash, Junior Run and Family Mile taking place on Super September 29.
