A SCHOOL'S award-winning environmental work has been hit by vandals yet again.

Linnvale Primary's polytunnel was damaged at the weekend just months after it was torn and a window was smashed.

The pupils' garden had been targeted by vandals before that incident as well.

Linnvale won their third Green Flag status earlier this year for their work on environmental issues, including growing their own fruit and vegetable in the polytunnel.

Police said a neighbour of the school witnessed two males around 5.45pm on Saturday, August 11 trying to get on to the roof of the school.

When they were unsuccessful, one suspect kicked the door of the polytunnel until he got in, then climbed on top.

Both males left on bikes towards Linnvale.

Police are examining CCTV and appealing for any witnesses to contact them on 101.

In May, after the tunnel was damaged, Lindsay Thomas, the school’s head teacher, said staff, parents and children are all “disappointed” following the incident.

She told the Post: “We were fortunate to receive external funding to purchase the polytunnel and the metal shed. The damage to both is thousands of pounds.

“The project is a real community effort as we have parent volunteers who come in and water the fruit and vegetables over the holidays.

“The children don’t only grow the fruit and vegetables but also work with the staff in the school kitchen to cook the produce. It’s a practical way for them to find out where their food comes from.

“We’re all disappointed but particularly the children who really enjoy taking part in the project.”

Anyone with information on the latest attack is asked to contact 101.
