The west of Scotland is experiencing severe road disruptions and delays as the European Championships’ Time Trial cycling events put the area in lockdown.
Almost 100 routes across Glasgow and beyond are closed as Europe’s elite road cyclists weave their way through the streets of Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire and Stirling.
Diversions have been put into place to direct traffic away from affected locations.
Drivers have also been told to expect delays on the M8, M77, M74 and Clydeside Expressway too.
This morning, Traffic Scotland said long queues were forming on the M8 westbound, at junction 12 to 18 Charing Cross.
The cycling event on Wednesday, August 8, will start at the Riverside Museum before travelling into Maryhill, Bearsden, Milngavie, Strathblane, Lennoxtown, Torrance, Kirkintilloch, Bishopbriggs and Springburn then returning to the City Centre.
The following roads will be closed:

If you can, leave the car at home and make the most of park and ride facilities and public transport.
EMERGENCY SERVICES Access for police, fire and ambulance services services will be maintained at all times and they should be contacted in the normal way.
COUNCIL SERVICES Due to the nature of the event and significant traffic management requirements, there will be disruptions to a number of council services, particularly cleansing, waste and recycling operations.
