A TOP West Dunbartonshire Council officer is leaving for a position at Edinburgh City Council.

Jackie Irvine, chief social work officer and head of children’s health, care and criminal justice services will take up her new position next month.

After six years of employment at West Dunbartonshire Council and its Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), Ms Irvine will become the chief social work officer and head of safer and stronger communities in the capital.

Ms Irvine said: “It’s been a real honour and privilege to work for the HSCP and the people of West Dunbartonshire.

“I would like to thank all the staff both within the HSCP and all the partner agencies who have supported me and helped me deliver strong health and social care services which our residents benefit from today.

“I am really looking forward to the challenge and opportunities that this new role will bring.”

Councillor Marie McNair, convener of the HSCP, said: “I will be sorry to see Jackie leave the partnership as she has been a very dedicated, committed and helpful officer who has always strived to deliver first class services to our residents and their families.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her service and wish her well in her new position.”

Beth Culshaw, chief officer of the HSCP, added: “Jackie always impressed me with her vision and drive to provide excellent services.

“She has been a driving force in improving outcomes for children, young people and adults and I would like to thank her for her support and assistance and wish her good luck in her new position.”

Ms Irvine was also elected as Social Work Scotland’s new president last month, taking over from Susan Taylor – the chief social work officer in East Ayrshire.

Speaking at the time of her appointment, she said: “I am honoured to take up the presidency of Social Work Scotland and look forward to working with our members, staff and partners in the year ahead. This is an exciting time to be involved in social work.”
