THE Erskine Bridge has reopened after a trailer full of grass cuttings spilled out over the carriageway.

It was reported about six tonnes of grass went on to the northbound carriageway, causing long queues.

Traffic Scotland tweeted at the incident happened at 8.34am and clean-up was likely to take time, with traffic queued back to junction 30 on the M8.

They then tweeted a photo of the mess, stating: "Bad news for hay-fever sufferers on the #ErskineBridge."

A dumper truck was working to empty the rest of the trailer as some drivers were stuck for 20 minutes, they reported.

By 11am, there were still long delays back to J29 for westbound traffic towards the bridge but Traffic Scotland said it was cleared around 11.10am.

Bill Stevenson on Twitter replied: "Going mow-where fast."
