A DRUMRY drug dealer who was caught in possession of £2,310 worth of cannabis has narrowly avoided jail.

Alan Goodwin, 31, of Jean Armour Drive, pleaded guilty at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last Friday to possessing cannabis, with intent to supply to others. The offence happened on July 25, 2017, at a house in Crescent Court, The Crescent, Dalmuir.

He also admitted intentionally by-passing the electricity meter within the house, stopping it from registering the electricity supply.

He was put on bail at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on August 23, 2017, but breached the order when he failed to appear at court on January 8.

Prosecutor Sarah Healing said: “At 6.50pm on July 25, last year, police, armed with a search warrant, arrived at his home and carried out a full search.

“They found a tin containing green powder.

“They also found clear plastic bags, scales and a further 500 grams of green powder.

“He was taken to Clydebank police office where he made a no comment interview.”

The drugs were valued at £2,310 in total.

The court also heard the accused has since turned his life around.

His lawyer said: “At the time he was smoking £60 of cannabis a day, with a small element of social supply.

“Since this incident he has addressed his addiction issues.

“He is now free from all drugs and has no other cases outstanding with the courts.

“He has taken everything on board and understands the stupidity of getting involved with drugs.”

Goodwin was jailed for 28 months in 2006 for being concerned in the supply of drugs.

He was convicted at the High Court in Glasgow.

Sheriff John Hamilton told Goodwin: “This was a large amount of cannabis and jail has to be a consideration and the principle option.

“You have been convicted in the past, so you know all about dealing.

“I would be well justified in jailing you. I won’t, but only just.”

Goodwin was sentenced to carry out the maximum of 300 hours of unpaid work within nine months.
