A KNIGHTSWOOD school is officially cycle friendly after it was given a nationally recognised award.

Corpus Christi Primary School has become the ninth in Glasgow to receive the wheel-y good news.

The school, which has over 400 pupils, undertook a range of cycling and active travel related activities as they worked towards the award.

Two groups of pupils completed their Bikeability Level 2 on road training, the the junior road safety officers (JRSOs) did a survey of teachers and parents to help develop the school travel plan, while students attended a school run summit.

Vicky Kytzia, principal teacher of the school, said: “The award has been achieved through working together with the children, their families and the wider community.

“Making it easier for more of our children to cycle and scoot to school has had a real positive impact on the whole school.”

Sam Brough, a P7 junior road safety officer, said: “Corpus Christi Primary School receiving the Cycle Friendly School Award is testament to the efforts of all JRSOs and the school to encourage cycling.”

Neil Lovelock, Dumbarton Road Corridor Environment Trust (DRCET) project manager, said: "It has been great working with Corpus Christi on their cycling activities and we are wheel-y delighted they have achieved this Award.

"They join St Paul’s in Whiteinch as a Cycle Friendly School as well as the Bike Chain and Glasgow Wood Recycling who are both Cycle Friendly Employers. We hope there will be many more Cycle Friendly awards in the local area.”
