DRUMCHAPEL High is hopelessly devoted to its audiences - and will prove it when they debut their first school show in 20 years this week.

The performance of Grease is sure to impress as pupils and staff have been working hard to make it a success this year and hopefully ensure the tradition continues.

Pupils Hannah Hardie and Andi Blackwood are sharing the role of Marty on alternate nights - and for Hannah, she gets the bonus of turning 13 in the middle of the show run.

The S1 pupil told us: "I was quite keen to get involved. I always wanted to play a part in the show. I like Marty because she's really sassy and has glasses.

"'Summer Nights' is my favourite song. Hopefully the shows will become a regular thing. I would do it again."

Co-star Andi, also in S1 and aged 12, said: "Hannah and I are learning from each other, getting better because we're giving each other notes.

"My favourite part is the music - I like the song 'You're the One that I Want'. It's fun.

"This is a huge deal for us - it's really good for the school and bringing everybody in. Hopefully we can do more."

Scott McNaught, playing Vince Fontaine, said he loves being able to don the purple jacket for the show and the music.

The 14-year-old S3 pupil said: "I've always been acting so I thought I would audition. I'm enjoying working with the cast."

Pupils hope to do High School Musical or The Greatest Showman next.

Musical director and faculty head of creative arts, Susan Magee, told the Post: "We’re so proud of all the pupils and staff who’ve worked so hard to brings this show to life. It’s a real event for the whole community and the cast and crew can’t wait until opening night on Wednesday.

"We’re expecting a great turn out on the night and we’d encourage anyone who’d like to come along to contact the school for details."

Clydebank High puts on their production of Hairspray next week and Scott joked there was a friendly rivalry.

But he added: "There's no competition because we've already won."

Grease at Drumchapel High is on June 13 and 14.
