A RADNOR Park family has paid tribute to “always smiling and laughing” teenager Erin MacGill following her death last month.

The 18-year-old died “safely wrapped up in the arms and love” of mum Fiona and big brother Sean after living with a rare chromosome disorder.

She was a girl who “loved people” – and enjoyed playing with their scarves – and she was a brave fighter who inspired her family to raise more than £7,000 for the charities that have impacted her life.

Sean posted a heartfelt message on Facebook on Sunday, April 22, remembering the sister who he loved with “all of his heart”.

He wrote: “My body is hurting so much. Last night Heaven gained an angel, my beautiful sister passed at 9.25pm on April 21, 2018, on me and my mum’s arms on my sister’s bed.

“My sister has proven so many people wrong, I could write a book about how I feel right now, 1,000 pages long, so many memories.

“I just ask you God, that you look after her, as she’s a very special girl, make sure you read her her bedtime story as she will never go to sleep without one.

“Make sure she never suffers and never feels pain again as she has consumed so much pain over the years.

“Erin my beautiful sister, I love you with all of my heart, and I will always miss you. See you soon.”

As the Post reported earlier this year, Erin celebrated her 18th birthday on February 17.

It was a “dream come true” for the girl who was given what her mum described as “the gift of life” when a kidney donor was found before a transplant on June 8, 2008, bringing an end to years on dialysis.

Fiona committed to fundraising for Kidney Kids Scotland, P.A.L.S, the Catherine McEwan Foundation, the Children’s Renal Unit at the Royal Hospital for Children and Robin House, with the cause named Erin’s Gift.

The total sum will be gifted on behalf of Erin to the charities on the 10th anniversary of her kidney transplant on June 8.

Responding to the support offered by local people, Fiona said: “Myself and Sean are completely overwhelmed and touched by the outpouring of love and support we have received, not only since our girl’s passing, but throughout our Erin’s Gift campaign.

“So many took Erin to their hearts and helped us raise an amazing amount of money for causes close to our hearts.

“We have so far raised £7,253.22 and although we were unable to gift as planned on Erin’s 18th birthday, all monies, including money raised in her name through this difficult time, will be, as we promised, gifted on behalf of Erin on her 10th ‘kidneyversary’ on June 8 this year.”

A number of people took to social media to remember Erin and pass on their condolences to the MacGill family.

Julie Mcgechie said: “So sad to hear the news. It was a pleasure knowing you all and being a part of your amazing journey.

“Thoughts are with you all and being a part of your amazing journey. Thoughts are with you Fiona and Sean. Erin you were a very special girl and gave lots of people so much joy.”

Sophie Keaney added: “I feel blessed to have known Erin. She was a beautiful girl with a beautiful soul. Can’t believe it. Stay strong Fiona. Love to you and Sean.”

Susan Johnstone said Erin had “brightened everyone’s hearts” at the Royal Hospital for Children.

A service was held at St Stephen’s Chapel in Dalmuir yesterday.
