A GROUP of dead foxes were found scattered at the side of the road in Old Kilpatrick last Friday morning.

A woman had been out walking when she discovered the carcases on Station Road.

The source described what had happened to the animals as “barbaric” and “shocking”.

She added: “I have a friend who has a sanctuary and I’m just very fond of them. I want to see no harm come of them.

“It’s a public health hazard things like this. It’s cub season and that could be a litter without a parent.

“There can be four or five to a litter and if any of them were mums that’s babies without a mum. It’s just horrible.

“People might think it’s fun and games but that fox could be a parent. I know it’s only a fox to some people but it’s breathing. They’re not vermin.”

The Scottish SPCA said it had not been contacted about the foxes but urged residents who are concerned about the welfare of any animals to contact its helpline.

Hamish Mackintosh, the chief inspector at Scottish SPCA, said: “We have not been alerted to dead foxes on Station Road in Old Kilpatrick. Anyone who discovers a dead animal should contact their local authority or Police Scotland.

“If anyone is concerned about the welfare of an animal they should contact our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
