A PARKHALL woman’s dog grooming service has won an accolade at the Scottish Retail Business Awards.

Shannon Burke, the owner of Shampooch Grooming, took home Best Pet Care and Grooming Business gong at the Glasgow ceremony on February 18.

The 25-year-old was delighted her staff’s hard work and dedication was recognised.

She told the Post: “There were five groomers in it, so I definitely wasn’t expecting it. We were all so happy.

“I went with my three staff. I compete in grooming competitions but it’s the first ever business awards that the shop has won.

“All my staff love animals and they’re the best team I could ask for,” so it was nice for them as well.”

The business, which will have been open seven years in April, was launched by Shannon when she was 18 after she received a loan from the Prince’s Trust.

“I have always loved animals,” she added. “After three years I started having employees and I’ve never looked back.

“We are more like a team. We work in the same room all day long. We all get on well.

“I think we are just going to get better and better. We are just going from strength to strength. All my customers are ecstatic. It was them who actually voted for us to get the award in the first place.”

The award win means Shampooch will now enter the Scottish awards in June and compete for a national win against businesses across the country.
