POLICE are appealing for help to trace those behind a violent attack on a father and son at a rail station.

A 19-year-old man arrived at Westerton station to collect his father around 10pm on February 12 and as they crossed from the westbound platform towards the car park, they were assaulted by a group of young people.

The teenager was punched and kicked, before the youths threw a glass bottle at him and threw bags of salt/grit at them.

When the teenager and his father retreated to their car, along with two other members of the family, the youths attacked the car until they drove away.

Investigating officer PC Nicholas Duffy said: “This was a very scary ordeal for the family, who were subjected to a totally unprovoked attack.

“We will not stand for this kind of behaviour and I urge anyone who witnessed the assault, or who thinks they may have information which could help the investigation, to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by calling 0800 40 50 40 or texting 61016, with reference 651 of February 12.
