POLICE are investigating the “mindless act of arson” of a container belonging to Drumchapel Amateurs FC last week.

The container is one of two at the football grounds and Glenhead Social Club and had previously stored team kit but was now just used to store rubbish and palettes.

Staff from the club arrived around 6pm on November 28 to find the container, which had not been secure, on fire and the fire service were called. Police said the incident is being treated as wilful fireraising.

The club condemned the attack and said they had previously emptied the containers because of break-ins.

They told the Post: “The container was empty as it had previously been broken into resulting in destruction of small goals that our younger teams had raised the money for themselves through running our yearly football festival.

“Everyone at the club is shocked at this mindless act of arson which could have been a lot worse if the fire brigade hadn’t managed to contain the fire to the one container.

“We have previously had to tell youths that have been trespassing on the ground of the dangers and destruction that this causes.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers on 101.
