A DALMUIR man stole a quantity of electrical goods, just over a week after being released from a prison sentence.

Scott McSporran pled guilty at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week when he appeared from custody.

McSporran, 42, of Durban Avenue, committed the theft on October 27, when he stole the goods from Semichem, Sylvania Way. He was on bail, the order having been imposed on him on February 28 at Dumbarton Sheriff Court.

On Friday prosecutor Craig Wainwright said: “At 2.10pm he was seen by staff who believed he was acting suspiciously.

McSporran left with a small set of speakers without paying and was caught red handed outside by police. They were worth £6.99 and were fully recovered.”

Defence lawyer Scott Adair told the court: “My client pleaded guilty and accepted the previous convictions tabled. He became at liberty on October 16, 2017.

“His record goes back some time and has relapsed into drugs. He accepts he faces prison.”

Sheriff John Hamilton said: “It’s disappointing that you were not able to do a drug treatment and testing order. I am sorry, but there is only one option left open and that is custody.”

McSporran was jailed for a total of four months backdated to October 30.
