POLICE have mounted a round-the-clock guard on a Clydebank house after an 11-month-old baby was rushed to hospital suffering from what were described as "serious head injuries".
A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed: "On Monday, November 6, at 5.30pm police were called to attend the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where an 11-month-old baby had been admitted with serious head injuries.
"Enquiries into the incident are still at an early stage. Enquiries are continuing."
It is believed CID officers have carried out door-to-door enquiries with neighbours from Vanguard Street, as enquiries were stepped up.
One neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Post: "I saw a girl running into a car on Monday with the baby. I have no idea what had happened.
"Since then the house has been constantly manned by police and I saw officers with white overalls going into the house. I assume they were part of the forensic team. I have not seen the couple around the house since."
It is understood the couple, who have not been named by police along with the identity of the baby, only moved into the Vanguard Street maisonette during the summer.
Another neighbour, who didn't want to be identified, said: "They moved in, I reckon, six months ago. I would say they are both aged between 25 and 30.
"To be quite honest there was never a cheap from the couple, they were really quiet, no rows or raised voices, nothing."
On Wednesday afternoon two officers in a police transit van were seen sitting outside the unoccupied house, replacing two other officers in a police transit van, as the guard on the house continued.
