A BARBER with businesses in Paisley has proved he is something special by being named best in Scotland.

Davie Walker excelled at the Look Awards, held in Glasgow, where he saw off tough competition to take the coveted top title.

This is just the latest in a string of achievements for Davie, who has seen his business go from strength to strength in the past decade.

It’s been a dream come true for the top tonsorial artist, who opened his first barber shop in Causeyside Street, Paisley, in 2007.

As his business flourished, he set his mind on expansion and that became a reality in February this year when he moved into Barrhead, opening a shop in Grahamston Road.

He now employs seven barbers between the two premises and also has two tattoo artists based in his Paisley shop.

Davie, 35, said: “It’s great to receive the Best Barber Award.

“We do really well - we are one of the most successful barbers in Scotland.”

The Paisley-born snipper started his career journey by cutting a pal’s hair while they were just boys but he admits he struggled with schoolwork.

Davie, who lives in Barrhead with wife Lindsay, seven-year-old son Danny and five-year-old daughter Eva, said: “I was dyslexic and my exam results weren’t that great, so I wanted to do something practical. Cutting hair was just right for me.”

Since starting in business, his reputation has steadily grown and he has featured prominently as a finalist in national competitions in recent years.

Davie also runs the Outlaw Barber Collective and Best of British Barbering, coaching wannabe barbers at training events and education displays across the UK.

A special highlight was when he demonstrated his skills for the first time at an event in Glasgow.

Davie said: “That was in front of a crowd of 300. It was a great occasion and, best of all, my family and friends were able to come along to see what I actually do.”
