FIVE cars were torched at the weekend across north-west Glasgow as police investigate eight connected blazes.

Detectives in Drumchapel are carrying out extensive searches of CCTV and appealing for witnesses to trace who is responsible for the cars set alight.

The most recent was this morning, around 3.30am in Kinfauns Drive, Drumchapel. Another car was doused in petrol and set alight, causing the fire to spread to two more cars in Glencoe Street, Anniesland, around 5.30am on March 25.

Last Wednesday around 5.20am, a grey Nissan Juke and a black VW Passat, were set alight in Polnoon Avenue in Knightswood. A third vehicle, a silver Dodge Caliber, was targeted near 799 Anniesland Road, Scotstounhill, though did not belong to that property.

And on Tuesday, March 21, around 1.25am, a car was torched in Dornal Avenue, Yoker.

Nobody was injured in any of the attacks.

In a separate incident, around 3.30am on March 25, a car fire was set alight in Cloan Avenue, pictured. Police are following a positive line of enquiry and it is not being treated as connected to the other fires.

Speaking last week, Detective Inspector Mark McLennan said: “Despite the early hour of these incidents there may have been people heading to work or coming home from work. "I am appealing to people who were in the areas to contact us with any information they may have.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact CID officers at Drumchapel Police Station on their non-emergency 101 number or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
