A DALMUIR primary school has nabbed yet another Green Flag award for its devotion to the environment.

Clydemuir Primary School has been celebrating its sixth green flag for its hard work, which includes recycling, picking up litter and planting its own vegetables.

The Eco Committee consists of pupils Erin Kiernan, P7A, Sophie McGeever, P1, Emma Fraser, P5, Sophie Kidd, P3, Kai Ungel, P2, Lewis Graeme, P3, Liam Bayliss, P7, Ellie Monaghan, P6, Harry Vine, P4, Aaron McPhalen, P2, Lewis Hopkins, P2, and Stella Stewart, P4.

They led the way by showing their classmates how to keep the school green but it’s an initiative that has been rolled out across each year group.

Sandra Henderson, a learning support officer who works on the committee, said: “It’s second nature now because the kids are so used to it. That’s why we start it from primary one.

“We recycle food, the dinner staff recycle food, we have litter pickers that go around the playground.

“We used to grow our own vegetables, like potatoes, and the kitchen staff would use them, so when the weather is nice again we will start that again.”

She added: “Solar panels and things we can’t do, but we do what we can. It’s been a lot of hard work throughout the years.”

The school hopes to go on to win many more of the awards and has plans to make 2017 the most green year yet, with the possibility of a greenhouse popping up on the playground in the coming months.
