A GROUP of enthusiastic youngsters from West Dunbartonshire are ready to get down to business after taking up apprenticeships with the council.
The 14 new recruits will take on a range of roles within administration and the construction craft, which includes roofers, plasterers, joiners and painters.
The administration apprentices will be split between positions in the council’s Garshake and Aurora House offices, as well as with West Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership.
All of the apprentices are aged 16 to 24-years-old and are starting the Level 3 scheme which will give them an opportunity to gain an SVQ Level 3 qualification, in addition to valuable work experience and skills.
Marc Crainie, 22, is starting a four year craft apprenticeship in joinery.
The former St Peter the Apostle High School pupil, from Clydebank, said: “When I left school I knew that I wanted to learn a trade as either a joiner or a locksmith.
"It’s sometimes really difficult to get started though, so I’ve been labouring for a joiner over the last few years.
"I’ve really enjoyed this and have already picked up quite a lot of skills which hopefully will stand me in good stead for this apprenticeship.
"I can’t wait to get started – I know there will be lots to learn but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
