A SEMI-professional footballer from Drumchapel was caught lying in a pool of his own vomit when he should have been under a curfew.

Drunk Michael Hardie, who plays for Alloa Athletic, told police officers he was on a night out when they saw him sprawled on a pavement in Clydebank.

But the 19-year-old was on bail in relation to another matter and should have been at home instead.

Hardie previously pleaded guilty to breaching his bail conditions by being outside his Merryton Gardens address between the hours of 10pm and 7am. He appeared for sentencing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week.

Eoin McGinty, fiscal depute, told the court police were asked to attend at Windsor Crescent, Clydebank, at around 2am on October 18 this year.

They saw Hardie lying on the pavement, covered in his own sick.

He told officers he was on a night out but police checks revealed he was on bail and should have been at home instead.

Andrew Phillips, defending, said his client did not drink very often because of his work and training schedules.

Mr Phillips continued: “He fully accepts he drank too much alcohol that night. It is no excuse.

“He is a young man who works and plays football.”

Sheriff Maxwell Hendry fined Hardie £200, to be paid at £50 per week.
