TWO horrified mourners were left badly shaken after they found two COFFINS dumped inside a cemetery skip. The Clydebank couple were remembering loved ones in the towns North Dalnottar Cemetery, and as they were discarding dead flowers into the giant white skip when they made the "disgraceful" discovery and quickly contacted council bosses.

However, the council had no knowledge of the incident and after an internal investigation, discovered that the coffins had actually been left by an un-named funeral directors.

The 63-year-old resident, who asked not to be named, told the Post how he and his wife almost fainted after finding the two wooden boxes.

He said: "I can't believe this has been allowed to happen in this day and age.

"I have already spoke to the authorities and they have said they will look into it but why was it there in the first place? "I was putting some dead flowers into the bin and I noticed there was two coffins just sitting in the skip.

"It is a disgrace and my wife almost fainted when she saw it. It is a very upsetting thing to see.

"To leave these coffins in a skip along with general rubbish is disgraceful. It is certainly not the type of thing you are expecting to see and there is no excuse for it.

"There was two coffins just sitting there and it has left me and my wife very shaken up. We thought we were actually seeing things and we couldn't comprehend it at first.

"We have been regular visitors to the cemetery for the last few months but we have never seen anything like this before." Councillor David McBride says he was stunned by the residents findings and admitted he wasn't surprised they had been caused distress.

The councillor told the Post: "I was surprised and disappointed to learn of the incident. The residents who made this discovery must have been in great distress." Although the incident had nothing to do with the council, they confirmed to the Post they removed the items almost immediately.

The council spokeswoman said: "These coffins were incorrectly placed in a council skip by a funeral directors. The council arranged to have them removed immediately."
